Hilda and Kurt were married in 1931. A year later he became sick with multiple sclerosis and my grandmother looked after him for eight years. Before dying Kurt could no longer speak. During the war they declared his house a Jewish home.

 

Kurt died during the first years of the war. A short while later soldiers came and said they would take Kurt’s mother to a nursing home. My grandmother packed her things in a bag. She never saw her again.
